HELP GET ADAM HOME TO OZ FOR EMERGENCY TREATMENT

In October 2021, our dear friend Adam was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour.

 

 

 

 

This fund is being set up by us, his friends, on behalf of Adam in order to raise enough money to cover the cost of his urgent travel from Buenos Aires to Australia for the lifesaving treatment he needs and to be re-united with his family. 

 

In September this year, Adam started having headaches and vomiting, and exhibiting some changes in behaviour. After initially being misdiagnosed as a virus, a brain scan revealed significant lesions in multiple locations in his brain.

 

Adam underwent his first major brain surgery on 15 October to perform a biopsy, and whilst he’s awaiting the detailed prognosis, he knows it’s malignant (cancerous) and will require radiotherapy, chemotherapy and possible further surgery.

 

He is yet to learn what type of brain cancer it is, how advanced it is, whether it’s primary or secondary and how large it is. So, there are still a lot of scary unknowns for Adam in this scenario.

 

This devastating news is made all the more complicated because Adam is on the other side of the world from the love and support of many of his friends and family in Australia. Having recently moved to Buenos Aires to be with his partner, Adam was still finding his feet with the language and now that significant language barrier is making this already frightening situation all the harder to understand medically. In addition, the cost of the treatment he’s likely to need, if he stays in Argentina, are prohibitively expensive for him. To give some perspective – the biopsy alone cost a whopping 10,000 USD.

 

By traveling back to his hometown Melbourne, everything about fighting this will become possible for Adam.

 

Adam is currently in good spirits, his wicked sense of humour very much intact, but the presence of the tumour is affecting his speech, movement, his ability to perform day to day activities. The sooner he can travel the better. 

 

Adam will need a chaperone on the 16+ hour flight to help navigate everything including multiple stop overs/ transfers. Ideally it would be his partner Lookie, but they are currently seeking legal advice to help facilitate her entry to Australia, and it’s all looking very uncertain.

As we know, travel under COVID, and particularly to Australia, is incredibly complicated and prohibitively expensive. In addition, as a freelancer in the arts sector, the last 18 months under Covid conditions have been particularly challenging, so this really couldn't come at a worse moment.

 

This is where we come in. As anyone who’s ever met Adam can attest, he’s the kindest, funniest, most generous human you’re ever likely to meet. He’s jumped in to help so many of us, his friends and loved ones in times gone by, and now he needs our help and if you can yours to get him home and get him better and to alleviate some of the financial stresses.

 

We are looking to raise a minimum $35,000 AUD to help cover the following (for which he's already started accruing significant debts):

 

- Flights to Australia for Adam and Lookie or another chaperone. 

- Any legal/ administrative fees associated with Lookie’s visa/ entry to Australia

- Help with living expenses once in Australia. Adam can’t work for the foreseeable future (and hasn’t been able to for several months) and Lookie is currently caring for him.
