The lack of aid to Syrian earthquake victims has received extensive international news coverage. This request is to help people in Syria who have received little or no aid since the earthquake struck on February 6th.
Your support will bring basic resources such as blankets and winter clothes to earthquake victims in northeastern Syria.
My name is Dorothy Pytel (from Chicago) and like many people, I am looking for concrete ways to help the people most impacted by the recent earthquakes. I have been in touch with my sister-in-law, Mirjam Goihl, who is a German national and social worker and a psychotherapist specializing in trauma therapy (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has been working in Erbil/Kurdistan since 2020 with Green Desert, which is a local humanitarian non-governmental organization (NGO). The earthquake that devastated Syria and Turkey was so powerful that she felt it in Erbil, despite being 400 km from the border of Syria!
Amid the political crossfire and violence between different groups, it is very difficult for aid to reach the people in need. Green Desert is exploring ways to help the people in Syria impacted by the earthquake. But developing partnerships and raising funding takes time. But if we do not act quickly many people will die and suffer unnecessarily. So we created this Gofundme to help meet the most basic needs of earthquake victims in Syria now.
Green Desert already has connections and access to Rojava (the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria) because this NGO has been collaborating with groups in Rojava since March 2022. Green Desert also has volunteers and staff willing to provide emergency aid relief for Syrian earthquake victims.
But the need is enormous. We need your help!
This project supports earthquake victims in Syria who have yet to be reached by the international aid community. Money raised through this Gofundme will be wire-transferred directly to Green Desert and will be used to support emergency aid to earthquake victims living in Syria.
Please help us to save lives!
