Help get Alfred Home

Hi, my name is Amy. I am setting up this campaign on the behalf of my father, Alfred.

July 13, 2024:

It is with a broken heart that I am posting this update. My father, Alfred Reimer, passed away this afternoon at the age of 73. He will be deeply missed by so many. Thank you to everyone who took the time to donate, call, email, text… the overwhelming support has touched us deeply and my father passed knowing how loved he was.

My dad was travelling in South America when he became ill with multiple respiratory viruses. He subsequently developed pneumonia and needed to be hospitalized. After a couple days in hospital he seemed to be improving and was discharged home, only to return a couple days later on June 17. He has been in hospital ever since.

As of June 30th my dad is in the ICU at a hospital in Paraguay. As you can imagine, the medical costs are accumulating and the cost of repatriation to Canada is yet to be determined.

As of July 4th, my dad has been intubated. I am writing this on July 9th and at this time he is stable - although the doctors are unsure of when he may be able to be extubated.

Ultimately, the goal is to get my father to a point where he would be able to fly home to Canada for further medical care, and all options for this are being pursued. As of July 9th, the only option for this would be an air ambulance.

I know we are all stretched pretty thin; there are many incredibly important causes, as well as just trying to exist ourselves. We appreciate any support you may be able to provide.

Edit as of July 9th: medical bills thus far total $34000 with each day in hospital being $2000 or more.

We have now received multiple quotes for air ambulance transport to Canada. Quotes range from $160000 to $185000 USD.
