Help get Colin well enough to bring him home
Donation protected
This is an urgent plea to help our brother, father, son, uncle, partner, friend, Colin.
Colin has lived and worked in London in the UK for over 20 years. He was made redundant at the beginning of the pandemic and went to Costa Rica pursuing potential work. He was due to return to the UK to start his new job in London at the end of January 2022 when he suddenly contracted a life-threatening bacterial infection that led to Gangrene.
The type of gangrene is the result of a highly lethal and progressive life-threatening form of necrotising fasciitis (a flesh-eating disease), which is extremely rare.
Colin only had a 30% chance of survival having developed sepsis and has undergone extensive surgical removal of dead tissue affecting various regions of his body. He spent 9 weeks in a government hospital in Costa Rica, fighting for his life. He has fought hard to overcome the infections and although he is out of immediate danger, he has many months of recovery ahead of him. He is still under cover of antibiotic therapy to ensure the bacterial infection does not reoccur and requires the continued care of specialists in addition to potentially needing reconstructive surgery to make a full recovery.
Colin is still too ill and incapacitated to travel and until he is strong enough to return to the UK, he has to continue to receive treatment in Costa Rica, where he must find the funds himself to cover the cost.
His current medical cost is £80,000 but with the further medical treatment required we anticipate a total cost c. £150,000. Without it, he will not get well or get home.
