"I have been wanting to write a book since the 70s and I engage in storytelling as a way to do performance"
-Elizabeth Burton
The wonderful Martin Raphael (https://www.sideshowtheatrecompany.com/ ) has been helping Elizabeth get her outlandish, hysterical
and often heartbreaking tales down on paper.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund the online publishing and printing of this life affirming chronicle.
"I believe I was put on Earth to remind people to love themselves. I am a Buddhist Stripper and 73 years young, my practice has taken me all around the world. A tour during the Vietnam War, resident Les Girl, company member alongside Michael Matou in The Sideshow Theatre Company, and defiant, vibrant, Mother – I continue to work as a teacher, mentor, performer and hairdresser to the homeless. Some know me as the ‘Ol’ Tart of Surry Hills.’ My life has been full of wonderful people and experiences. I am a very fortunate woman." - EB
Elizabeth and her daughter Libity have been recording the A CUP OF TEA WITH MISS MODESTY podcast for some time and are going to
be releasing it soon on Spotify.
Elizabeth Burton has been lucky enough to collaborate with Sydney living Museums and have costumes shown in the MAAS, she taught
striptease classes privately and at NIDA. EB has worked in film and television around the world and has been the included in many
documentaries (Babe, The two of us SBS, The potato factory, Moulin Rouge).
"When you get old you feel like no one is listening to you,” she mused in an interview. “When I was young and spunky, they would be all over me, but now, especially when people walk looking at their phones, we ignore each other. Sometimes they walk towards me not looking at
me and I just yell out ‘Oi!’ They usually jump back. I think they are missing out on life.”

"People think me saying masturbation, mastication, meditation and mobility [the four tenets of my personal philosophy] is outrageous.
