Help get Jonah and Evan back on the road!
Donation protected
Jonah and Evan are two of the sweetest, brightest boys you have ever met. At a young age both were diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a severe muscle-wasting disease that has unfortunately taken away their ability to walk. Though both boys are now wheelbound, this has not lessened their enthusiasm and curiosity to see the world.
We have been fortunate enough to have Medicaid to fund power wheelchairs, so Jonah and Evan retain mobility around the house, but sadly Medicaid can only provide minimal support when it comes to a vehicle capable of transporting the chairs. Without such a van, everyday activities like seeing friends, visiting local parks, and even going to the doctor become very difficult.
Finding a vehicle capable of lifting and safely transporting the boys and their chairs was not easy. We’ve researched and talked to several conversion companies, as well as other families in the Duchenne MD community, and our unique requirements limit us to a Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Grand Caravan, or Toyota Sienna. The Pacifica has been presented to us as the best option because of the way the undercarriage support is designed, which will provide more safety - and comfort - for the boys when they are riding in the back in their wheelchairs. The van itself will cost $44,420, however, converting it to safely lift and carry the boys is very expensive, at $15,635. This is far beyond our ability to pay, which is why we are asking for help. All money raised through this campaign will be transferred to a savings account and held there to be paid directly to the dealer and conversion company once the time comes. If we are blessed to receive more than is needed to pay for the van and conversion, any excess funds donated will be used solely for additional equipment and other medical needs for the boys or donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
We want so much for Jonah and Evan to be able to lead their lives as normally as possible, and with your help we can make that possible. We are hoping to be able to get the van as soon as possible, to show our boys as much of the world as we can. We are looking forward to sharing photos and videos of their experiences with everyone who helps.
