Hello All!
I am elated to announce that I have been accepted into Goldsmith's, University of London to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Computational Art but I desperately need your help in getting there! This has been an exhilarating four year journey for me, which began at the end of 2019. In that time, I have applied to many programs, and feel fortunate beyond words to have been accepted by this incredible university to fulfill my dream. My journey began after being advised by multiple colleagues to pursue a master's in order to become eligible for jobs in my field of contemporary art that require this credential.
Many of you know my story, but for those of you who don't, I will summarize it here.
In 2016, I started a gallery, while continuing to work a day job in shipping and receiving at Sid Mashburn. The gallery focused on solo and two-person shows by artists mostly from Houston, where I live. Through folks I met while curating shows there I started working at The Menil Collection, in the Visitor Services department. I firmly knew by this point that a career in the arts is where I belonged.
After several years, and with seventeen shows under my belt as a curator, and four as an artist, I began applying for assistant curator positions. I was consistently told I needed to have a master's degree. In 2020 I began applying to programs.
During the process of gathering my portfolio materials, I began using the computer to a larger degree than before (to make renderings, edit videos, plan sculptures and exhibitions, etc.), which led to my completing an NYU online certification in AR/VR and 3D Graphics. I also had my first opportunities to guest lecture at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, University of Houston, and Rice University. I would love to teach more long term at the university level, which is something this degree from Goldsmith's will allow me to do. The program duration is two years.
I'm excited by this next chapter, and appreciate anything you can contribute. This amount will cover my tuition, visa, one way flight, and books. It does not cover any living expenses, which I plan to pay for by working part-time within my visa requirements.
