Help us get our equipment back- YMP fundraiser
Donation protected
Last week (the beginning of May), the Pop Recs building at High Street West- and where Young Musicians Project is based- was broken into. In the break in, Young Musicians Project has sadly lost some of the equipment we've worked really hard to fundraise for over the last year. We are absolutely gutted- for a small organisation, this is a huge blow to us.
We Make Culture, who run YMP, are now raising money to raise funds that equipment back and keep the project going. Over the last year, the Young Musicians Project expanded massively. We've been working with more young musicians every week, growing our creative community and supporting more young people to improve their songwriting skills, make friends and grow their confidence. We're also supporting emerging artists from all backgrounds to make their first steps in the music industry and to have experienced of recording, producing and gigging. We were so pleased to move into the new Pop Recs at High Street West, and have more space to make music.
During lockdown, we have continued to deliver free weekly and 1-2-1 sessions with our young musicians, working really hard to keep the community of young people together, look after their mental health and supporting them to keep making music. At the start of lockdown, we distributed some of the equipment to young musicians to have at home, but unfortunately, due to lockdown rules, we have not been able to get back to Pop Recs Ltd to remove the last of the equipment. We'd hoped to distribute the last of this equipment in the coming weeks.
Although it may not seem like a lot of money, it is a huge loss to a project like ours, which relies on funding and donations to run. It's so important that we can provide access to instruments for young musicians who don't have their own at home and to ensure we can keep offering the sessions for free. This is also a very challenging time for organisations like We Make Culture and Pop Recs Ltd who have lost significant amounts of income and access to funding.
Paige, one of the young people who comes to the project, has made this film with the help of some of the other young musicians. It tells the story of what we do, what YMP means to its members and what losing the equipment means to the group members.
