Nebula Awards Weekend: May 10-15 2023

Location: Anaheim, CA

Estimated travel cost for Tempest: $2350*

The issue in a nutshell: Tempest did not plan to attend Nebula weekend in 2023, because she is returning to Egypt in April (without me — my budget is taken up with Storm Chasing in May).

HOWEVER, if we can raise the funds needed for Tempest to attend Nebula Awards Weekend, she has promised me that she WILL actually attend! (Zoom pinky swear is totally a thing.)

Here’s why this is so important to me: In addition to the friendship I had with Miss Andre herself in the last few years of her life, I bought cartons of books from her personal library (High Hallack) to help originally fund this award. I even had the honor of presenting the Andre Norton Nebula to Delia Sherman in 2011.

Exactly 10 years ago, I received MY first Andre Norton Award nomination. The ceremony was also in California (San Jose). There were an unprecedented number of nominees that year. I didn’t win. But I wouldn’t have traded that impossibly magical weekend for anything.

Tempest absolutely deserves to have that same experience.
