Help get the DOAP Team a new van!

Donation protected
UPDATE: This fundraiser has ended. Thanks you so much to everyone who donated!

We are fundraising to get the Downtown Outreach Addictions Partnership (DOAP)  team a new (used) van! The funds raised will be used directly to buy the DOAP team a pre-owned van for under $5000. The van will be used by the DOAP Team, Encampment Team and Needle Response Team. The van will likely not be exactly $5000 so any left over funds or any money raised above and beyond our goal will go to the Calgary Black Empowerment Fund. This is a personal fundraiser put on by community members. Through this fundraiser we will buy a van from Kijiji or another local source and sell it to the DOAP team for $1 as per their request.

The DOAP team’s current deteriorating van is constantly in the shop, with much of their funds going to its upkeep. Without a working van, they can not perform the crucial work of getting people the help they need. Whether it is administering Naloxone to slow/stop an overdose, providing a safe bed to sleep in or long term support, the DOAP team needs a functional, reliable vehicle to do their crucial work. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic they can only drive one client at a time so having that van break down constantly further frustrates this already delicate operation. The sooner we can get them a new van, the sooner they can focus on making our community stronger and safer.

The DOAP team is a vital part of the Calgary community. They work to serve vulnerable and racialized Calgarians struggling with addictions to help support them through direct intervention. Through administering detox and housing programs, giving out Naloxone as well as cleaning up needles from public and private property, the DOAP, Encampment and Needle Response teams are extremely valuable to people across Calgary. People with addictions and a lack of safe housing deserve respect and access to life saving interventions. In 2019 the DOAP team directly served 3664 unique clients from the Calgary Downtown and Beltline area. Supporting the DOAP team means getting vulnerable people the help of mental health and addictions specialists instead of possible criminalization or further distress by the Police and RCMP.

Thank you in advance for your help in getting this project off the ground, showing people with addictions and the people who serve them that they are seen and respected.
