WHY YOU SHOULD SUPPORT THE “JANE MARIE” FUNDRAISER
Presented by the Extreme Railfan Redwood Empire Corporation (ERREC)
Campaign: The Jane Marie Revival — One Railcar. One Chance.
The Rock Island “Jane Marie” isn’t just an old train car — she’s a rolling piece of American railroad history. Built for comfort, class, and elegance, this beautiful lounge car once carried passengers through the golden age of rail travel. Now, she sits silent, waiting for a second chance.
That’s where we come in.
The Extreme Railfan Redwood Empire Corporation (ERREC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring historic railroad equipment, is working hard to purchase, restore, and return the Jane Marie to operation. Our mission is simple: to keep railroad history alive and make it accessible to everyone — from lifelong railfans to new generations discovering trains for the first time.
Why We’re Trying to Buy the Jane Marie
Preservation Before It’s Too Late:
The Jane Marie is one of the last surviving Rock Island lounge cars in existence. Once these treasures are gone, they’re gone forever. Our goal is to save her from deterioration or scrapping by purchasing her before she falls into the wrong hands or is lost to time.
A Traveling Museum on Rails:
Once restored, the Jane Marie will become a mobile museum and educational exhibit, telling the story of passenger railroads, the Rock Island Line, and the golden age of train travel. She’ll be equipped with displays, photos, and exhibits that teach the public about America’s rail heritage — all while being able to roll behind Santa Fe 2926, one of the largest operating steam locomotives in the world.
Community, Education, and Inspiration:
Our mission goes beyond steel and paint — this is about people. The Jane Marie will host students, veterans, families, and railfans from all backgrounds, giving them a chance to experience rail travel as it once was. It’s about education, history, and pride in the craftsmanship that built this country.
A True Nonprofit Effort — Not a Scam:
Unfortunately, there’s been misinformation floating around online. Let’s set the record straight: ERREC is a registered nonprofit. We are not a private collector or for-profit business. Every cent raised goes directly to the purchase, transport, and eventual restoration of the Jane Marie. We believe in total transparency — and we regularly post updates, receipts, and progress on our official channels.
️ What Comes Next
Once we secure funding to purchase the car, the Jane Marie will be transported to Albuquerque, NM, where she’ll be inspected, cleaned, and prepped for Amtrak certification. The goal is to make her travel-ready so she can join excursions and events with Santa Fe 2926 and other historic trains across the country.
After that, restoration work will focus on interior preservation, paint restoration, and mechanical certification, transforming her into a fully functional showpiece that honors the golden era of the rails.
