Mission Statement
Extreme Railfan Redwood Empire Corp (ERREC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving railroad history through the restoration and operation of historic passenger railcars. Its mission is to inspire interest in American railroading heritage and provide educational and charter experiences that honor the legacy of classic passenger service.
Corporate Overview
ERREC operates independently and is not affiliated with New Mexico Heritage Rail, a division of the New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society (NMSL&RHS). It functions as a private preservation and restoration initiative focused on railcar ownership and excursion readiness.
Key Projects
The “Jane Marie” Project
Originally Rock Island “Des Moines,” a 1947 coach built for the Golden State and Twin Star Rocket routes.
Converted into a private lounge car and certified for Amtrak use.
ERREC is actively restoring and upgrading the car for charter and excursion services.
Funding and Outreach
ERREC is supported through donations, fundraising merchandise, sponsorships, and community engagement online. All proceeds go directly toward restoration, maintenance, and operation of their historic equipment.
Goals
Complete full restoration of the Jane Marie and make it available for rail excursions.
Build a small fleet of operational, Amtrak-compatible heritage railcars.
Educate the public about the history of classic passenger rail travel in the United States.
Collaborate with like-minded preservation groups, where appropriate, to support the larger mission of heritage railroading.
