ANNOUNCEMENT: The Jane Marie is Coming Home!
Extreme Railfan Redwood Empire Corp is thrilled to announce our plans to acquire the magnificent ex-Rock Island passenger car, "JANE MARIE"!
This 1947 Pullman car, originally the Des Moines, is a beautiful example of American streamlined history. But for us, acquisition is just the start!
Our Vision for the Jane Marie
When we successfully bring the Jane Marie into our fleet, our goals are simple: Preservation, Operation, and Experience.
Preservation: We will ensure this historic car is maintained to the highest Amtrak-certified operating standards, protecting its history as both a Rock Island coach and a modern private car.
Redwood Empire Excursions: We plan to utilize the car's operational status to host exclusive, high-end excursions along scenic routes, possibly bringing a piece of historic rail travel back to the Redwood Empire region.
National Railfan Charters: The Jane Marie will be available for private charters nationwide! Imagine riding this classic car behind famous excursion locomotives or connecting it to Amtrak trains for a unique rail travel experience across the country.
Preservation Fund Support: Proceeds from these charters and events will directly fund our ongoing mission to preserve historic rolling stock and support other rail preservation projects!

What Is the “Jane Marie”?
The Rock Island “Jane Marie” is far more than just a railcar — she’s a rare and irreplaceable piece of American railroad history. Our nonprofit, ERREC, is on a mission to save, restore, and return her to the rails as a traveling museum and educational exhibit, operating alongside the world-famous Santa Fe 2926 steam locomotive.
Why We’re Trying to Buy It
Preservation:
The Jane Marie is one of the last surviving Rock Island lounge cars. If she’s not saved soon, this beautiful artifact could be lost forever.
️ Restoration for Education:
Once restored, the Jane Marie will become a mobile museum, inspiring new generations to discover railroad history and America’s golden age of train travel.
Community Impact:
ERREC is a verified nonprofit, built by railfans, historians, and volunteers — not a private collector. 100% of all funds go directly toward the purchase, transportation, and certification of the Jane Marie.
Public Access:
Our long-term goal is to make the Jane Marie available for public events, school visits, and preservation showcases nationwide, ensuring that this legacy is shared with everyone.
