Who we are:
The Galway Feminist Collective was founded in 2015 by activists who wanted to help smash the patriarchy and capitalism here and everywhere. Since then, we learned so much from all the people who worked with us in organising events, creative actions, solidarity and protest marches, workshops, and The F-Word (Galway’s Feminist Festival). Smashing the patriarchy can be loud and colourful but it mainly happens slowly and steadily all around us. It happens every time people who have been marginalised; women, trans people, non-binary folk from all walks of life and from all over the world, come together to support each other.
In the last few months we came together again after having rested for a while. We met online and went for walks and got motivated and excited about this new idea. It’s slowly taking form and we will need a lot of support and help to bring it to life. We are starting up a cooperatively run and owned mobile food project!!
What the project is:
Our new project is called Stirring the Pot. It is a cooperative food business and social enterprise run by the Galway Feminist Collective. We will offer healthy vegan and vegetarian meals from around the world by amazing home cooks at a price that’s affordable to everyone. The food trailer will also double up as a mini feminist library where people can borrow books and zines written by women and by trans and gender non conforming writers.
What we want to achieve with this project:
Stirring the Pot will create meaningful opportunities of work and autonomy for those involved in it and connected to it. We want to source our food from local small scale farmers and growers. From those ingredients we want to prepare healthy food for the local community and create a space where people can meet, eat, learn, read, connect and break down cultural divides.
What we need:
Your contribution will help us set up the project. We already have a mobile catering trailer. Now we need to furnish it, make it look lovely and get it up to the required HSE standards, buy cooking supplies and advertise. We also need a hitch in order to be able to bring the trailer to markets. Altogether this will require a budget of at least 3000 Euros.
To track our progress renovating the trailer and getting it ready for markets, check out our new Instagram account: stirringthepot_galfemfoodcoop and our facebook page facebook.com/stirring-the-pot-Galway-Feminist-Food-Co-op.
