Help Ghana's First Deaf Nurse Get an Interpreter

Donation protected
It has always been my friend Zakia Issahaku’s dream to become a nurse. When she does so, she will help realize another exciting dream for Ghana: becoming the country’s first deaf nurse. She worked hard to even gain enrollment in a nursing school in 2019 in a country that is still educating itself around deafness. However, she now has to jump through another substantial hurdle to meet her dream: she needs help affording nursing school.

If she graduates, Zakia will have the distinction of being Ghana’s first deaf nurse. When there is often a communication divide in healthcare between hearing doctors and deaf patients, having a nurse who can clearly communicate and thoroughly assess the health needs of deaf patients is incredibly important. However, if Zakia cannot afford school, she will be forced to drop out.

This is where we come in. Let’s help Zakia graduate and give the deaf community in Tamale a health care worker who can best serve their needs. We are so close-- we just need one more semester's worth of school fees!

A breakdown of the costs (updated May 2022): $5,200 USD total

We have collected $4,600 USD for her previous semesters of school, GoFundMe fees, and interpreter fees.

Fees for her last semester of school: $600 USD

Help us graduate Ghana’s first deaf nurse! Anything helps!

Thank you!
