Help Gia Get to Graceland!
Donation protected
Meet Gia, a vibrant, beautiful, loving young woman born with Down Syndrome and diagnosed with Leukemia in February of 2023. Gia has been bravely fighting this disease with strength and grace. Throughout all of her challenging treatments, one thing that has motivated Gia to keep going is the promise that when her blood is better, she will visit Graceland.
Before becoming sick, Gia had a full life. She is a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend, and community member. In high school, Gia was a cheerleader and swimmer who enjoyed drumming circles and doing pottery. After graduating high school, she was employed at Lycoming College. During this time, Gia started complaining about being tired and appeared unmotivated to go to work. At first, her mother thought she didn't like her job anymore. Unfortunately, it wasn't that simple. After a difficult-to-treat urinary tract infection, it was discovered that Gia wasn't unhappy with her employment; she was sick with Leukemia.
Gia's mother, Laura, shared that one of the hardest things about watching her daughter fight for her life is that Gia doesn't fully understand why she is being put through these grueling medical procedures and treatments. Gia's understanding is that her blood is sick. Due to this experience, Gia is developing some mental health concerns on top of her physical health issues. She has become anxious and is struggling with acute stress disorder. However, Gis has the will to keep going because she knows she's going to Graceland when it's all over.
Please help us make sure this trip happens for Gia. She is a lifelong Elvis fanatic, and due to her age, she is not eligible for the Make a Wish Program. So we're turning to you to donate aid to make her special wish to visit Elvis' Graceland come true.
All money donated will be spent on travel costs, medical equipment, and other experiences needed for Gia and her family to visit Graceland. If donations exceed the trip's price, they will be put into an account for Gia and used toward any ongoing treatment and life enrichment activities expenses.
