Help Gina Get Urgent Surgery in the USA

I have decided to set up this page as a way to support our friend and colleague Gina who has recently been diagnosed with extensive fibroid formation for the second time. Gina came to Ireland in February 2019 from Peru to Loughrea, Co. Galway, where I have worked with her since. She is the kindest, most genuine person and always has time for everyone.

5 years ago, Gina was told by doctors that they had found 3 benign tumours. These were removed by open surgery. However recently, during an MRI scan, Gina received the unfortunate news that 8 more tumours were discovered. The largest of these measures 7 cm in diameter. The tumours are compressing her bladder and kidneys causing severe back pain most of the time. This condition also causes the blood disorder, anaemia. This is not being controlled properly, even with supplements. As one can imagine, this is greatly affecting Gina’s quality of life and she urgently needs surgery.

Due to the size and number of tumours to be removed and the complexity of their location, a specialised surgery called Laparoscopically Assisted Abdominal Myomectomy (LAAM®) is needed urgently in order to prevent permanent damage to other internal organs. This surgery is only performed in United States and the cost is approx. $20,000, plus other expenses like flights and accommodation.

The treatment is extremely expensive and is outside the scope of what Gina can afford. We appreciate it's a tough time right now with Covid and everyone is feeling the pinch, but if you could kindly support us in our goal, with whatever you can afford, it would mean the absolute world to Gina, her family and her friends.
