Help Gina Osorio as she recovers from a car wreck

On Thursday morning Gina Jerez Osorio (daughter of Nelson Calderon & Elvira Martinez) was on her way to the University of New Orleans when she was involved in a bad car accident in Arabi. Her car went under a forklift that was being transported by a delivery truck. The back base of the forklift went through the vehicle's windshield, rendering Gina unconscious. Gina is currently in ICU and being kept in a coma as she goes through procedures to help keep down brain inflammation and heal. Gina has internal brain bleeding and fluid in her head, lungs, left eye and possibly heart. They had to drill a hole in her head to help relieve some of the fluid. She will have many upcoming surgeries and need facial surgeries to repair damages. Currently, Gina will be in the hospital for no telling how long. She will have a long road to recovery ahead of her, but we are so blessed that she is alive.

Gina is 18 years young and graduated from Chalmette High this past May. She works at Fulton Alley and attends the Univeristy of New Orleans as a freshman. Gina and her family are such good-hearted, hardworking people. El jueves por la mañana, Gina Jerez Osorio (hija de Nelson Calderón y Elvira Martínez) se dirigía a la Universidad de Nueva Orleans cuando se vio involucrada en un grave accidente automovilístico en Arabi. Su automóvil pasó por debajo de una carretilla elevadora que estaba siendo transportada por un camión de reparto. La base trasera del montacargas atravesó el parabrisas del vehículo, dejando a Gina inconsciente. Gina se encuentra actualmente en la UCI y se la mantiene en coma mientras se somete a procedimientos para ayudar a reducir la inflamación del cerebro y sanar. Gina tiene hemorragia cerebral interna y líquido en la cabeza, los pulmones, el ojo izquierdo y posiblemente el corazón. Tuvieron que perforar un agujero en su cabeza para ayudar a aliviar parte del líquido. Tendrá muchas cirugías próximas y necesitará cirugías faciales para reparar los daños. Actualmente, Gina estará en el hospital sin saber cuánto tiempo. Tendrá un largo camino hacia la recuperación por delante, pero estamos muy bendecidos de que esté viva.

Gina tiene 18 años y se graduó de Chalmette High en mayo pasado. Trabaja en Fulton Alley y asiste a la Universidad de Nueva Orleans como estudiante de primer año.
