Help give Chance a chance at a healthy and happy life ❤️

Hi, this is Chance. A 14 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, who's life long owner decided he needed a new home for him. My mother, Lori and I saw Chance advertised on Facebook. We saw his sweet face and knew we needed to give Chance a chance. We met Chance and knew he'd fit right in with us and our family, and we would give him the best life he deserves.

After meeting Chance we learned he had never seen a vet nor had any vaccines in his 14 years of life. As advertised, a local rescue offered to pay for "all of his vetting". They insisted we use their veterinarian that they work with. After a long wait, an appointment was finally made by them. Lori took Chance to that appointment and learned that Chance has a lot of neglected medical issues. We learned he had both a yeast and bacterial infection in both ears. We were told he is completely deaf. He has a skin infection all over his body, nuclear sclerosis, cataracts, a cough with unknown reason, arthritis in both back legs and a cracked tooth which can lead to infection.

Chance needed a lot of tests and bloodwork done. The rescue then declined to pay for the majority of his needs. They did pay for the office visit and "comprehensive wellness" visit. They declined to pay for necessary vaccines that they said they would pay for originally and medication needed to treat infection and pain to help Chance feel better. Lori spent $525 that day.

Two weeks later, Chance visited our family veterinarian who then told us Chance needed more vaccines, different medication to actually treat his rash/allergy (which requires 3 baths a week with medicated shampoo because the rash is also fungus, so we will need to pay for him to be bathed and shaved) and a second round of antibiotics to treat his ear infection. Once Chance is over the current issues, he will need monthly injections to treat his arthritis and possible pain medication. Our vet also informed us that it appears his nails have never been trimmed due to the quicks being grown to the tips of his nails causing his nails to grow in different directions. Chance also has a lump on the side of his neck which will be addressed along with his cough at his next visit. They did agree he is just the sweetest boy, but was unfortunately neglected medically. That day, another $600 spent.

Long story short, Chance is in need of a lot of medical attention, medication and injections which he will need for the remainder of his life. When making the decision to adopt Chance, we did know there would be expenses, but also under the impression from his owner that he was a very healthy boy. However spending over $1,000 in just one month was definitely not anticipated. And there will continue to be monthly costs for his injections and treatments.

Lori and I are in this to give Chance the absolute best life he can live and we will never give up on him, but any help with all of these unexpected medical treatments would be greatly appreciated!!

Please help us give Chance a chance at a healthy, happy and THE best rest of his life ❤️
