Help give Sofia-Rosa a voice!

This go fund me page is for my beautiful girl, Sofia-Rosa. Sofia who is now 4 has had a challenging start to life, she was born with craniosynostosis which meant the right side of her skull was fused together before her brain was fully formed. After a year of hospital appointments, Sofia was able to have surgery to remove and reshape her skull at the age of 1. This was a difficult time but we felt a sense of relief that Sofia had finally had her surgery and she was on the mend….until I began to notice she was behaving differently from the other children around her. After another year of further hospital appointments and check-ins, Sofia got her diagnosis that she has nonverbal autism and global delay and ARFID (Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder). After 2 years of uncertainty and worry, we began to adjust our lives accordingly not knowing what the future would hold for our little girl.

Sofia will be starting school next year and I would like to put her in the best position I possibly can. One of her biggest challenges is communication, being nonverbal means she can’t tell people what she needs or wants. Although I have been teaching her Makaton and pecs she struggles to use them independently. There is an iPad which has the capability to hold software which will enable Sofia to communicate her feelings and needs via the iPad, she is a complete wiz with her iPad at home so I know that this will enable her to begin to explain what she wants/needs. It is however not cheap and so I am asking for help. This iPad won’t just help her tell us what she wants but it gives her a voice of her own.
