Help Gizmo Fight Kidney Failure

My name is Margaret, and I'm trying to raise a little bit of money to help pay for our cat's medical bills. Her name is Gizmo and she is my husband's best friend. He's had her since she was just a 11 months old, which will be just about 10 years now.

He named her Gizmo because of her chitter. She doesn't meow, she makes a little chitter noise that sounds just like Gizmo from the movie Germlins. She's a sweet girl, friendly toward everyone, likes to play with her sister, Butters, and never causes us any problems. She likes to nibble on my husband's ear, her way of giving him kisses when he comes home, and will sleep on his chest at night.

Now the bad news. Saturday (6/8/24) she got into my son's room and nibbled on a plant I got for mothers day. We knew certain plants can be toxic to cats, which is why we put the flower in his room, because it's always closed, but she got in while I was cleaning and must have gotten into it. That night she projectile vomited, then stopped eating, then began hiding in corners and acting lethargic. When my husband brought her to the vet they took her in immediately. She had lost a lot of weight, was bulimic and dehydrated. She has kidney failure, which is really bad for cats, and things are not looking good.

It cost $3593 to take her in, give her a feeding tub, IV, x-ray, and keep her overnight. It'll be an additional $1015 for every additional night she needs to stay.

Losing her would be devastating, especially since she is really not that old and has so much life in her. But this also comes at a bad time for us because I just gave birth to my second child right at the end of January, which meant taking time off for maternity leave (though I could only take 10 weeks because that's how much sick leave I had built up). And being a teacher doesn't exactly bring home the big bucks. I'm still working on paying for all the hospital bills, while also having a mortgage payment, a car payment, insurance payment, as well as all the other life expenses like groceries, gas, toiletries, diapers, doctors appointments, etc. My oldest is also entering high school and there are plenty of expenses that come with that, on top of figuring out how to send him to college.

Sorry to ramble, it's just a stressful and troubling time. We love Gizmo very much, and want to save her, but worry what the cost will do to our situation in the long run.
