For my birthday this year, I’m raising money to give a very special gift to my dad for HIS birthday - a pool lift! This is a SURPRISE by the way, and he is blocked on this post!
As many of you know, my dad was diagnosed with ALS last January. ALS is a 100% terminal illness with no FDA approved treatments available. With ALS, your brain slowly stops being able to communicate with your muscles resulting in slowly progressing, total paralysis. It does not affect brain cognition. Currently, my dad is still able to use his wheelchair to get around, he can still drive, eat normal meals, and enjoy spending time with family. Until recently one of his favorite activities was relaxing in the pool! However, his muscles are no longer strong enough for him to get out of the pool, and he really misses it! For his birthday, I’d like to purchase a portable Pool Lift that will allow him to safely and comfortably enjoy this pastime for as long as he is able. Unfortunately, this is not a cost covered by insurance or VA benefits. Its very pricy, but to me, being able to enjoy the things you love while you still can is priceless! I’m asking for your help to make this a reality so me and my kids can swim in the pool with my dad for another summer!
We have chosen a portable model because it will also allow him to safely enjoy other activities like getting in and out of a boat.
