Help Griffin Get His Top Surgery
Donation protected
Hi, I am Tyler Kane. I am a family friend of the Deckers, and I am helping run this GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Griffin. Please see Griffin's story in his own words below.
FROM GRIFFIN:
Hello! My name is Griffin Decker. I am a 16-year-old female-to-male transman. I am raising funds for my top surgery. Top surgery is a transgender mastectomy. The reason I am raising funds is because my family is unable to pay for my top surgery, and my insurance refuses to cover anything involving my transition. Initially, they covered my testosterone injections for 10 months. They stopped paying for the testosterone when they realised my gender marker is female.
For four years I’ve been suffering from depression and anxiety that is so severe that I have considered ending my life. It has negatively affected my physical and mental health, my family relationships, and my education.
When I got my first binder, I felt a sense of comfort that I have never felt before. A binder is a chest compression tank top. Although wearing the binder made me feel better mentally and emotionally, it has had negative effects on my physical health. I already have asthma, and wearing the binder makes it even more difficult to breathe. It causes chest pain and rib pain. Last year I was working on a school production and was hit in the back by a piece of falling wall, which has caused back pain and more breathing issues.
The top surgery costs roughly $8,000. This covers the anesthesia, the surgery, the room, the bandages and bags, the pain medication, and the follow-up appointments.
This is important to me and my family because the anxiety and depression have been keeping me from feeling comfortable in my own body, and have been keeping me from reaching my full potential in life.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I am grateful for any amount you can donate to my cause. Please help spread the word by sharing my story and by sharing this link on Facebook and on any other social media.
