For the last 7 years, Grounded Permaculture Action Party Inc. has;
- helped dozens of land-holders achieve their vision through our community projects arm,
- hosted scores of action parties, retreats and workshops,
- trained hundreds of people in the field of permaculture,
- composted over 10t of humanure through its Compost Dunny enterprise,
- inspired thousands to regenerate their sacred connection to country, community and culture.
Over the years, we found that to be truly effective as a community organisation going “all in” with practising permaculture - we need a stable base from which to operate.
Not willing to settle for just anywhere with unclear agreements and vague promises of a utopia - the concept of a Regenerative Living Hub was birthed - bringing clarity and alignment between the needs of the land, tenants and landlord.
The last 4 years have seen the emergence of the first
Grounded Regenerative Living Hub at Natural Bridge.
Cedar Waters (fka Famunity) is a 52-acre community
nestled high in the headwaters of the Nerang River, Yugambeh Country.
For 4 years the core crew behind Grounded have been setting up the culture and systems to establish the first of many Regenerative Living Hubs. (Yes, this model can and will be replicated)
The plan was for Grounded to sign a 3+3+3 year commercial lease for the entire site.
This would provide suitable and stable accommodation for its most active members - whilst managing, maintaining, developing and regenerating the site into its full potential as a hub for growing food, building community and celebrating culture.
The landlord and his family returned in Sep 2023 for a visit.
Instead of signing the long-term lease, the landlord stated his intentions to sell.
This leaves the 22 people that live here (across three generations) with no secure tenure.
Without a solid, sound and safe home base from which to operate -
the important work Grounded does to regenerate our sacred connection to country, community and culture is in jeopardy.
Fortunately - the landlord is a good man who started the vision for this place and poured significant resources into getting it to where it is now.
To give us all some breathing room, we negotiated a 1-yr commercial lease for Grounded on the whole site until Jan 2024, we also have the first option to purchase… within a 6-month timeframe.
That timeframe is coming to a close and we need your help to make this happen.
THE PLAN
Grounded has the unique opportunity to raise money from the extended community and to partner with private investors to buy the Cedar Waters site we currently lease and manage.
The more money we raise through this campaign - the less we will need from private investors.
The money raised will be used to pay for the set-up costs of the company (marketing, legal, finance - capped at $20K) - and the remaining balance will be used to purchase extra shares for Grounded in the new company (in addition to the 11% equity share Grounded receives as a founding partner).
The baseline business model for the site is already in operation.
There is huge potential to leverage the site's natural capital,
develop enterprise and further empower individual community members.
We have so much value to offer our local and global community.
We just need a stable base from which to operate.
In addition to this crowdfunding campaign, we are currently seeking EOI's from
- Regenerative Renters (looking for secure tenure and a better deal)
- Rural Land Holders (that want support to develop regenerative enterprise)
- Impact Investors (that want to partner with us and get in on this opportunity)
