Help Gwen Levey Share Her Powerful Music

A lot of doors have opened because I wrote a viral pro choice country anthem, but a lot have also been closed on me. And that’s why I need your help.

Hey y’all, it’s Gwen Levey, the singer/songwriter behind “Barefoot & Pregnant,” which thanks to you now has over 16 million views.

When I first moved to Nashville, I was on the typical country music track. I even had success with some of my first few singles that landed on big playlists because of a man at Spotify named John Marks, who broke fellow country artists such as Maren Morris. And then, from my understanding, during the pandemic the labels came in and essentially bought up all of the playlists and told John, “sorry, no, you can’t be breaking these independent artists like you used to.” So John left Spotify and so did one of my biggest champions.

Fast forward to when “Barefoot & Pregnant” was released and even more people closed the door on my career. Lots of people in Nashville do not want to touch such a hot button issue like women’s reproductive rights. But that is not stopping me.

So today I am still a completely independent artist with no label, no formal management, and no one helping to push my music out there other than my wonderful fans who follow and support me. The minute I decided to not “shut up and sing” nor build my career “the Nashville way” is the minute I found my voice and became fully true to my artistry.

I want to do something different with this new album, which will have so many different social commentaries about what is going in the world right now and many new sounds. We’ve been making the album completely DIY with no fancy producer — just me, Marcus (my partner and producer), and the talent of my real band, The Breakdown.

In order to get this album out there, unfortunately it takes money to hire the right PR team and push the music out to new listeners who would really benefit from hearing it. So I am starting a GoFundMe and humbly ask for any help you might be able to give in this process.

For the past 7 years in Nashville, my day job has been a waitress, dog walker, and nanny. I have been working so hard, as so many people do in this town, to make ends meet and help get my career off the ground. I truly believe these are songs that would help our world right now and I’d be so honored if you’d be a part of this project by giving anything that you can. ✨
