WELCH FAMILY – HELP HAILEY GET HOME TO NORTH CAROLINA FOR CRITICAL MEDICAL TREATMENT AND RECOVERY
Earlier this week Jessie and Mike Welch’s daughter Hailey Jo Welch sustained massive injuries in a major accident across state lines. Mike, Jessie, and Hailey’s sister Hannah drove through the night to be by her side. Hailey is currently in critical condition stuck out of state and is undergoing her third surgery today. She is in a medically induced coma to help her body get the oxygen that it needs. Today's surgery is high risk but is necessary to save her life, and the hope is that it will stabilize her enough to be airlifted back home to North Carolina to a more advanced hospital. Hailey’s injuries require resources that are beyond the current facility’s means.
This is the worst possible time in our country to be so far from home and in need of critical care. The hospital is only allowing one person to be with her at a time, and it is likely that even this will be prohibited soon. Jessie, Mike, and Hannah are faced with the same unprecedented events that we are all experiencing with the virus, but they are facing it under horrific circumstances.
The immediate goal is to get Hailey stable and back to North Carolina and to get her family back home with her. In light of all that is happening in our world, time and resources are already critically limited. They need our help.
Expenses for Hailey’s care are astronomical and are increasing rapidly. Jessie and Mike are already exhausting their resources. The cost of the flight alone to transport Hailey by helicopter back to North Carolina is estimated to be $24,000. Hailey is going to need several more surgeries, and her recovery is expected to be very long and intense. Jessie will be out of work for months, and their home will need to be modified to accommodate Hailey’s needs.
Hailey is a college freshman pursuing equine science for her lifelong love of horses. She is smart, funny, and vibrant - a real go-getter. She is driven like Mike, and compassionate like Jessie.
Hailey’s injuries are extensive: multiple compound fractures of her femur, fibula, and tibia; a protrusion break; fractures on her face and hand; numerous lacerations requiring staples; massive hematoma to her torso, and a broken and crushed pelvis that has caused pulmonary embolism and her lungs to begin to fill with fluid. She cannot breathe on her own.
For those of who know Jessie, this is your call to action to show her the kind of generosity and support that she has given to so many others over the course of her life. She has been a rock for many. In times of crisis she is the first person to arrive to help and the last person to leave. She gives tirelessly and selflessly and now we need to return the favor. We may know her to be strong and resilient and unwavering, but this has turned her world upside down. This family needs our help.
Please, please, please contribute - however great or small. We can help give Hailey a fighting chance to recover, and the clock is ticking. In this time of uncertainty and upheaval across the nation we still have the power to lift this family up from where we sit in the security of our own homes. The Welches do not have this luxury.
Because of the nature of the accident the Welch family is not able to provide information on the cause and they ask that you refrain from asking questions or sharing the details if you know them. Please show your support by giving them space to focus on Hailey. Offer words of encouragement and help by donating and sharing the heck out of this page. This is a wonderful family. They are loved and respected by so many! Say some prayers and know that they are ever grateful for your love and support.
