Help Hallie Meet Expenses Resulting from Illness
Donation protected
This GoFundMe request has been approved by my daughter, Hallie Brubaker.
Please help me to help my daughter with her current legal, medical, and living expenses. I am unable to continue helping her financially because I am retired and struggling to make ends meet. My current income and serious health conditions have severely limited me.
Hallie has been unable to work for over a year due to a mental health condition, bipolar depression with extreme anxiety. Prior to that, she has worked as a part time employee for a dog groomer and then at Kroger. During her marriage, her husband has been either unemployed or underemployed. Her husband’s parents, her dad and I have helped pay for the mortgage, utilities, insurance premiums, cell phones, WiFi and groceries. In early April, they became homeless. The stress of never having enough money to meet their expenses led to many arguments and subsequent domestic violence.
Hallie sees a psychiatrist and plans to apply for social security disability which could make her eligible for a variety of social services. Although her current insurance covers most of her medical expenses, copays do add up. In 2020, she will need to apply for Medicaid. In addition to medication, Hallie needs counseling to help her manage her illness. It would be great if we could afford a dual diagnosis center.
Being unable to work and unable to pay for housing, Hallie now stays with a friend, but this is a temporary arrangement. Not wanting to lose all of her possessions, Hallie has been storing her furniture and household goods for $95 per month. Other family members have helped because we don’t want her to have to start over from scratch when she does get on her feet again.
Before she lost her house, she was receiving food stamps, but had to pay cash for paper products and toiletries. She needs to reapply. Because she does not have a car, she needs money to take MARTA. She enjoys walking but wants to be able to buy a used car at some point in order to reach locations not on MARTA routes.
Hallie no longer has a cell phone or tablet which she needs for job searches as well as social services applications.
Early in 2019 and again in late May, Hallie was charged with family violence/simple battery for fighting with her husband. She was sentenced to 3 weeks in the Clayton County jail plus a year of monthly probation meetings which cost $50 each. The Clayton County Court also ordered her to take a Certified Family Violence Intervention Program which has a one time registration fee of $65. Each 2-hour session costs $40 per week for 24 weeks. Failure to pay will result in her having to serve out her sentence in jail. Hallie will go on trial again for another domestic violence charge in Fulton County on September 23rd of this year.
I have created a special account at my credit union for your donations and will use the money only to pay for necessary expenses such as the ones listed above. Because I think that she needs to do her part, I currently hire her to do odd jobs that I have been paying other people to do. She earns ‘credits’ for each completed job. This enables me to pay directly out of this account for some of her legal expenses. I plan to continue this arrangement with the GoFundMe donations that we receive as well as for successful completion of applications for work and social services. Hallie is interested in working at a local thrift store. She is a great employee when she feels well. I am looking forward to her being able to work again and support herself.
Hallie and I will appreciate your donations, encouragement and kind thoughts!
