Help John & Joel Rebuild Livelihood After L.A. Fires

I'm organizing this fundraiser for Joel Alpers and John Mader, two dear friends and my former bandmates (2nd and 3rd from the right in the photo) who both lost their homes this week in the L.A. wildfires. They were able to get out with their families, but they lost everything material - from basic necessities to memories to the musical instruments they use to make a living.
I met Joel and John in 2020 when we, along with 8 other stellar musicians, played Hamilton together in L.A. We weathered the pandemic shutdown and loss of 15+ months of work, and became the kind of tight community you hope to find on every gig. (John encouraged me to record my own songs; Joel ended up producing my EP - in the beautiful home studio he just lost.)
They both put so much beauty and joy into their communities and the world at large, and my hope is to give them support for basic needs and work time lost as they rebuild their homes and livelihoods from scratch.
- My name is Kat Sherrell and I'm a close friend of Joel Alpers and John Mader, two members of the same circle of friends.
- The funds will be used for unexpected costs that are not covered by insurance, FEMA, or sources of disaster relief aid. This includes immediate replacement needs, as well as replacing instruments, music, and recording gear necessary for their work that are not covered or are in excess of insurance or other relief funds. The funds will also be used longer term to help with ongoing living costs during periods of lost income since as gigging musicians they don't have jobs with PTO to deal with rebuilding.
- The funds raised will be split evenly between them, and I will be distributing the funds via PayPal and wire (when the funds raised exceed PayPal transaction limits)
