Help Hannah open Bleeding Heart Boutique!

If you have driven through uptown Athens, Ohio recently, you have perhaps noticed a “coming soon” sign in the window of 28 ½ West State Street. This is the new home of Bleeding Heart Boutique, the new headquarters for vintage and upcycled fashion brand Bleeding Heart Vintage.
Bleeding Heart Boutique is the brainchild of our dear friend, Hannah Morgan, a lifelong Athens County resident and longtime fixture in the uptown boutique and street fair scene. Realizing a life-long dream of owning her own vintage boutique, since early February of 2023, Hannah has been hard at work renovating her shop space with DIY gusto. She is looking forward to running this business on the core values of inclusion, collaboration, community, and celebration of self.
Unfortunately, on April 4th, Hannah took a nasty fall from a ladder while installing a light fixture in one of the store’s dressing rooms, landing directly on her back. Since then, doctors have determined that she has a compound fracture of her L1 vertebrae and two herniated discs in her spine. After three weeks of near-total bed rest, she is beginning to recover, but unfortunately, her mobility will be limited for quite some time. Doctors have estimated 6-8 weeks for her fractured spine to heal, and up to a year of healing for her herniated discs. Needless to say, she has a long road of recovery ahead to get back to the level of mobility needed to run a small business.
This is why we, her family and friends, have come together to organize this GoFundMe campaign on her behalf. We know there is a ton of community support behind this venture and are hopeful you will join us in helping to see it come to fruition. Before her fall, Hannah’s opening timeline was set for late April or early May of 2023. Her accident has of course upended this timeline, but with some help, we can make sure that this is just a setback.
Below, you will find a breakdown of expenses we are looking to help Hannah cover in the months ahead:
Boutique:
- Rent+utilities x 3 months= $3000
- City code/Ohio tax form fees= $200
- Remaining essential store supplies (shopping bags, clothing tags, gift cards)= $1200
- Fancy lumbar support/reclining office chair= $200
- General loss of revenue due to postponed opening date= $1200
Total = $5800
General recovery:
Note from Hannah: "I am fortunate enough to have most of my medical expenses paid for by Medicaid. However, a part of fundraiser donations will be used to pay for prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and other items to aid in my recovery.
As some of you may know, my longtime partner, Evan, and I have lived in a tiny house we built for last nearly 10 years. Our bedroom/“sleeping quarters” are located in a small loft on the second floor, and the only way to access it is up an 8 ft ladder. Because of my injury, I have to limit myself to the first floor. Minor changes to the house had to be made, like adding a couch I could sleep on, handrails for the steps to our entrance, etc.”
- Initial orthopedic surgeon appointment= $300
- Orthopedic wedge pillow set for sleeping/resting= $100
- Walking cane= $20
- Orthopedic work shoes= $130
- Shower bar=$30
- Lumbar pillow for car= $20
- Prescriptions & over the counter meds= $100
Total = $700
Fundraiser grand total: $6500
We appreciate all shares and donations, no contribution is too small. Thank you so much!!
