Help Hannah Save Her Puppy Charlie
Donation protected
Thank you for taking time to consider this fundraiser for my dear friend Hannah and her 16 week old Golden Retriever puppy, Charlie, who has Parvo and is in declining condition!
Charlie doesn't have his full suite of vaccinations and his chances of survival are ~10% without adequate medical attention. Hannah has pet insurance, however coverage is delayed two weeks from purchase, which is also the time frame in which Charlie has been receiving care. Hannah has had to cover more than $2,500.00 in time-of-service veterinary expenses and is anticipating another bill upwards of $2,000.00 while Charlie currently receives life-saving care at an animal hospital in Anchorage.
Please if you can help - any dollar amount will go far!
Hannah has been looking forward to becoming a dog mom and is doing everything she can to help Charlie survive and live a long and happy life. Hannah is so generous and helpful and genuine to her friends and family and community, and now she needs our help.
More details on Charlie's condition below:
Hannah adopted Charlie two weeks ago and within two days he became very ill- vomiting, soft and uncontrollable stools, lethargy, and loss of appetite. He was taken to the local animal hospital and Hannah was advised to leave him over night in the emergency vet's care. She did.
Charlie's lab results were initially negative for Parvo and he was treated with an IV to support his fluid intake, and was eventually sent home the next day with medications to help with nausea, diarrhea, and his gut health.
This visit alone cost $2,300.00 and full, time-of-service payment was required.
Hannah followed the medication regimen and Charlie seemed to be improving, but within 5 days the symptoms returned.
Hannah thankfully already had a vet appointment scheduled within a day of his relapsed symptoms, though the purpose of this appointment was to complete his vaccination series, including his final Parvo shot. However, labs during this appointment determined Charlie had Parvo and so instead of completing his final vaccination series, he was sent home with a new medication regimen. The Vet also instructed Hannah to be prepared to take Charlie back to the animal hospital for more intensive monitoring because his chances of survival might decrease without professional veterinary attention, given that he was not fully vaccinated.
This vet visit cost $375 and full, time-of-service payment was required, again.
Parvo is particularly challenging for puppies to overcome when they are not fully vaccinated. According to Horecka et al 2020 , Parvo has a 90% mortality rate for dogs unvaccinated, insufficiently vaccinated, or improperly vaccinated.
Charlie's symptoms did not improve in the following 24 hours and he couldn't process any medication prescribed due to his vomiting.
Wanting the best chance of survive for Charlie, Hannah took him back to the emergency animal hospital and is expecting another bill upwards of $2,000.00.
Hannah did get Charlie pet insurance the day she adopted him, however coverage is delayed two weeks from time of purchase, which unfortunately is the time frame Charlie became ill and began receiving care.
These costs are beyond her emergency funds and compound the distress she is experiencing over the survival of her first puppy, who she's only had for two weeks.
$4,500.00 will cover most, if not all, of the initial veterinary bills and costs of medications that insurance will not cover. This money will help Hannah focus more on caring for Charlie, instead of worrying about finances. Any dollar amount will go a long way and I appreciate you considering donating to support my dear friend Hannah and her new puppy, Charlie!
