Help Hans Pay for His Prosthetic Leg
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Erika and I'm fundraising for my dad, Hans. My 72-year-old dad is one of the most resilient people I know. Even losing a leg hasn't dampened his spirit – though I'm sure he has his moments!
After years of hip pain, Dad finally got his groove back with two new hips a year ago! He was like a new man, enthusiastically running his vegan food business at the farmers market (everyone loves his gourmet sauerkraut). He adored being able to play with his grandkids and was itching to travel again after years of being grounded."
Then came the leg trouble. Pain, dark toes, a stubborn wound, and frustrating delays in seeing a specialist in his small town. Classic. He kept it quiet, but thankfully, my sister-in-law intervened at Christmas and got him to the ER."
Turns out, his leg was necrotic and needed amputation. A week later, it was gone. Being in Toronto, I felt so far away, wishing I could just magically appear with a comforting cup of coffee (and maybe a new leg!)."
Life's been a bit of a rollercoaster since. Rehab, learning to do everything again, losing his driver's license (major blow to his independence!), and house renovations. His sauerkraut dreams are on hold, which is a tragedy in itself.
But Dad? He's been incredible. Taking it all in stride, staying positive, and working hard in rehab. He loves family visits and FaceTime, hassling the rehab staff and he's determined to get back home and the life he was just starting to enjoy.
That's where you amazing people come in. A prosthetic leg means everything to him: independence, confidence, and a chance to get back to a more normal life. He's committed to walking again, to playing with his grandkids, and maybe even driving. Imagine him strolling on the beach again – a simple joy we want to help him reclaim.
The cost of this life-changing prosthetic is $10,000, and we need it in the next month so he can continue his physiotherapy. Every donation, big or small, will help my dad get his 'sea legs' back (pun intended).
Thank you so much for considering a donation. Your kindness will make a real difference in my dad's life and help him take those crucial next steps. We're so grateful for your support!
From Hans:
For the past three months I have been hard at work recovering from a lower leg amputation. I’ve had the good fortune to having been admitted to Holy Family Hospital, on of Canada’s premier rehabilitation facility. I am progressing extremely well and getting close to able to return home. However, in order to receive my final prosthetic leg, it has to be paid in full. The cost will be mostly covered by government funding, leaving still a substantial balance for me to cover. With Canada Pension being my sole income, I find myself in need of extra funding.
