Help Hans Breathe Easy

Hans Rueffert, our friend and gastric cancer survivor, is facing a serious health battle with his right lung. Please donate to help ease his burden.

Our incredible friend, Hans Rueffert, is a husband, dad, animal and plant lover, mentor, and cancer support advocate, among others things. He is a pillar of our community and inspiration to us ALL.

Hans is now facing another very serious health issue due to prior years of radiation damage and previous lung infections. He is having chronic daily bleeding from his right lung, which is atrophying. His healthy left lung is compensating and providing over 90% of his oxygen.

Hans is coughing up significant blood multiple times a day, which is frightening, demoralizing, and impacting his daily life. He and his wife Amy have a “go bag” packed in case the bleeding becomes uncontrollable and they need to head to the hospital immediately. It is an unbearable way to live.

Since November 2024, Hans has had over 5 hospital stays due to this issue, including a trip to MD Anderson in Houston. Doctors are still trying to determine the root cause of the bleeding, which is very frustrating. Hans is facing the possibility of lung removal, which involves an intensive recovery period that could span upwards of 18 months.

Even with medical insurance, Hans’ out-of-pocket expenses are exorbitant. He is also incurring the cost of travel to Houston, life saving medicine ($500/month) and a hospital bed (he must now sleep on an incline to prevent bleeding).

We often feel helpless at times like this, watching a friend suffer. One thing we CAN do is donate and give the gift of financial security to Hans and his family during this uncertain time.
