Help Harrison Haney fight Burkitt Lymphoma
On May 6th, 4.5-year-old Harrison was rushed to the Children's Hospital in London after suspicious cells were detected in a large lump on his neck. After a series of surgeries, scans, biopsies, and tests, he has been diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma.
The Doctors found one large tumor behind his eye that extended into his ear and jaw, and secondary tumors on both lobes of his liver and in his lungs. This blood cancer is going to require a minimum of 6 months of intensive, in-hospital chemo treatments, followed by a lifetime of post-hospital checkups.
Unfortunately, what Harrison has been through up until now is just the tip of the iceberg.
In the last 24 hours, the tumor behind his eye started growing rapidly, so he was given an emergency dose of steroids to start to shrink it while he waits for his full treatment to start.
He'll be going through multiple rounds of chemotherapy, blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, and will be closely monitored for infections, fevers, kidney strain, and chemo side effects.
I've started this Go Fund Me so that my brother AJ and sister-in-law Jenn can completely focus on Harrison's care over the coming months and not worry about their mortgage, car payments, insurance, cell phone bills, etc. This money will also help them provide Harrison with everything that he needs when he goes home - like therapies, medicine, and specialists, to name a few.
AJ and Jenn are going to be working day in and day out with the team of Doctors and Nurses to make sure that Harrison's treatment is as effective as possible.
It's so early in the game that we can't even begin to think of the overall impact this will have on their family financially.
Our entire family is heartbroken over what Harrison is about to go through, and what AJ and Jenn will have to see their son go through. We're all living through an actual nightmare, but especially the three of them.
Because of the aggressiveness of the treatment Harrison will be receiving, they will all be staying in the hospital for the entire 6 months so he can be closely monitored by his team of Doctors and Nurses.. his immune system is going to be non-existent, so any little thing can have life-threatening implications. This is even more complicated and devastating during Covid.
AJ and Jenn will be separated from their (almost) 3-year-old daughter, and Harrison will be separated from his sister (and in his words - "my best friend") for the duration of Harrison's treatment except for short visits a few times per month - IF his blood count goes up and is in a good range while he's not taking chemo.
Harrison will be spending his 5th birthday in the hospital and will be missing the start of his kindergarten year while he goes through treatment. He absolutely LOVES school and wants to get back to it ASAP.
Harrison brings so much love and light into our family, and is such a sweet, crazy, smart little boy. We can't wait until he returns home, and are praying every single day that he makes a full recovery and kicks the crap out of his Lymphoma.
It would mean the world to our family to have your support while AJ, Jenn, and Harrison fight this like hell. Every single dollar counts and is a huge help.
If you're unable to donate at this time, please keep Harrison in your prayers and in your thoughts. ✨
From the bottom of our hearts - thank you ❤️
PS - as you can imagine, AJ and Jenn are busy learning the ropes in their new roles at the hospital. Instead of calls and texts, we ask that you send words of encouragement to the email address we've set up - Harrison haney [email redacted] [dot] com (all one word) - so they can check it when they have downtime and energy. Thank you for your understanding.
