Help Hawa Yusuf Get a Life-Saving Lung Transplant
Donation protected
Hello, this is Sagal, Naziah and Lootii reaching out to ask for your support in a time of critical need for our beloved friend, Hawa.
Hawa has been courageously battling pulmonary fibrosis, a life-threatening lung disease that makes it increasingly difficult to breathe, for the past year and a half. Despite the life expectancy of only 3 to 5 years without a lung transplant and the rareness of being affected by this condition under the age of 50, Hawa has faced each day with strength, gratitude, and unwavering resilience. She is one of the most caring people we know, constantly expressing appreciation for life and the people around her. Her journey has been incredibly challenging; at one point, for nearly a year, she was unable to do anything on her own, not even sit or stand and at times would cause pain to even talk, laugh, or move. The simplest acts we take for granted were impossible for her, and she spent hours lying down, too weak to do more.
Recently, though, Hawa’s condition was improving. She was beginning to feel healthier, had started to move more, and even began exercising. She had begun to join us for brief outings with friends and was making plans for her upcoming birthday. Just as hope was beginning to return to her life, her condition took a sudden and heartbreaking turn. A severe lung infection led to her being placed in a medically induced coma, and now, her only chance at survival is an urgent lung transplant.
Within 48 hours of being hospitalized, Hawa has been airlifted to a hospital in Toronto, where she will receive intensive care and await a transplant. This life-saving procedure could grant her a second chance, but it comes with significant financial burdens that her family cannot bear alone. We are asking for your help to support the costs of her essential medication and medical devices necessary for her recovery, as well as the travel/relocation expenses her family will face.
Your generosity means the world to us, and we’ll keep you updated on Hawa’s journey every step of the way. Thank you for your compassion, and please consider sharing this page.
Sincerely,
Hawa’s family and friends.
NOTE:
Hello everyone,
After consulting with the social worker and gaining a clearer understanding of the full scope and duration of this process, we've realized the need to adjust our goal to 40 000$. This journey is proving to be much more costly than anticipated, and with both parents currently unable to work, every bit of support makes an incredible difference. Your contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated and brings us one step closer to securing the care and stability we desperately need during this challenging time.
Thank you for your continued kindness and support.
