Help Hayden Fight Stage IV Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Donation protected
I'm writing this GoFundMe on behalf of my baby brother, Hayden Seckington, who was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin's Lymphoma this past December, just weeks after his eighteenth birthday. Hayden is thoughtful, inquisitive and incredibly perceptive. He's a lover and a fighter and fiercely protects those he loves. Never in a million years could we have predicted that this would be a part of his life story and it breaks my heart as his older sister to know that it is. When I visited my family in Boise this past June, Hayden told me that he felt really sad to be growing up, that he already was missing the youth of his childhood...and then he enters his adulthood like this?? He deserves a bright future without struggle or pain. Our goal is to provide Hayden with the necessary resources to heal and prepare for his journey into adulthood by giving everyone an opportunity to come together and show Hayden that he’s not alone in this battle. Donations will be used to:
  • Provide Hayden with additional therapies and resources to improve his comfort and well-being throughout treatment.
  • Help Hayden prepare for potential long-term health concerns and ensure he can access ongoing support after treatment.
Hayden's health suddenly and quickly deteriorated at the end of 2023. There is no explaining how Hayden’s situation progressed from a lump on his neck in September with no other indications of cancer, to a stage four cancer diagnosis within a couple of months. But on December 4th, Hayden’s life was forever changed. He and our mom, Shara, went to the oncologist and officially received the initial diagnosis of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, though it was still unclear at what stage the cancer was. After returning home from receiving the diagnosis, our strong, sweet Hayden sobbed in our mom's arms.

In the week following his initial diagnosis, the results from his PET scan came back much worse than we expected. Our mom called me that night, quietly choking back the words, "it's everywhere." It felt like the whole room was spinning. It was in his neck, lungs, chest, armpits, liver, para-aortic upper abdomen, periportal region, spleen, groin, bones and derma. Hayden's official diagnosis was now Stage IV, B-cell Hodgkin's Lymphoma. What went from an initially pretty promising survival rate for a cancer diagnosis, has now dropped to about a 57% survival rate with this specific type and stage of Lymphoma.

Hayden had been doing his own research upon receiving his diagnosis and aggressive treatment plan. He didn’t want to do the proposed treatment plan because he hated the idea of living with the long-term complications of the chemotherapies, which include heart problems, lung problems, and infertility. But his oncologist told him that if he didn’t do the proposed treatment, there would be no future for him. He knows deep in his heart that he wants to be a dad one day and have a family of his own, so not doing the proposed plan wasn’t an option.

Hayden's treatment includes multiple chemotherapies, including doxorubicin, whose bright red color and notorious side effects earned it the nickname “Red Devil” chemo. Hayden will have a total of twelve infusions that are five hours long every two weeks. He also receives a Growth Factor Injection twenty-four hours after chemo to stimulate cell growth and to keep his white cells high enough to keep away infections and continue treatments. While these treatments are powerful, they are also very toxic, and make him feel terrible for days on end.

As he goes through this journey, Hayden gets to see the support and kindness of the people he comes in contact with in his little world of family, friends and now his infusion team and doctors. He is determined to overcome this and if his scan in June still shows that he has to fight longer, he will. This GoFundMe will give everyone an opportunity to come together and show him that he is not alone in this battle and will allow him to take a minute to breathe after his pause into adulthood. It will also help immediately with things like acupuncture, massage, protein drinks and supplements and anything else that will bring him some comfort. For the rest of his life, Hayden will have expenses stemming from his journey with cancer. So in addition to tending to Hayden’s immediate needs, we’re hoping this fundraising campaign will help with future medical expenses that we can’t yet anticipate.

Hayden is a fierce spirit, determined to do things on his own, but I'd love to show him support by gathering together to show him that he is not fighting this battle alone. Any contribution you can make will help him see that and help him live the life that he deserves.

We thank you with all of our hearts for prayers, healing thoughts and any donations that are sent to Hayden.
