Help Hayli Get Foot Surgery
Donation protected
Hi my name is Hayli Thomas, chances are if you're seeing this you already know that. I'm not very good at writing about myself, nor at asking for financial help. But, for those of you who don't know me, I am a hardworking and community oriented young woman. I work in the culinary field (and am working towards Human Services), love animals, nature, and love the sparkle in the eye of people doing what they love. I am from Santa Cruz, CA, and currently live in Eugene, OR. Adventure, connection, and stability are 3 of the things I hold closest to my heart. I long to hike mountains with my dog, dance in the kitchen and dig my toes in the sand once again.
I am experiencing some major financial setbacks due to medical debt. Back in mid September of 2021, I broke my 5th metatarsal on my right foot trying to get up from a chair while my foot was asleep. I went to the ER where X-rays were taken, confirming the break. I was put into a splint and told the local orthopedic specialist, (Slocum), should see me in a couple of days. Three weeks went by with no contact, even with persistent calls and voicemails. All vacation and sick pay was used at this time to cover bills. In October, Slocum scheduled further X-rays and supplied a walking boot allowing limited mobility and return to work with office duty only.
Being a chef, this affected hours worked and ability to perform the job to the fullest. Another 2 weeks went by before the orthopedic surgeon contacted requesting a CT scan to get better imaging in hopes of catching some healing. Unfortunately, the bone showed no signs of healing. Surgical consultation was scheduled at the end November, confirming the need for a plate to be put in to set the bone. Surgery was finally scheduled in late December, 3 months after the break, for January 11th. With surgery being in a new calendar year, all insurance deductibles start over, leaving me in quite a tight spot.
This long drawn out process has not only put a dent in income, but has also tacked on thousands in medical bills pre and post surgery. The total amount needed to pay off medical bills, and cover the upcoming month of being without work is a whopping $15,298.80 after insurance. It is with a heavy heart and a lot of anxiety that I am here asking for help. If there is anything you can donate to help curb the costs of this medical set back it would be deeply appreciated. I know times are hard for all of us, and I have tried everything I can to proceed without asking for help. I have been denied financial assistance, and need to have $5,500.00 up front to be able to have surgery. I really hate to ask for this kind of help, especially during the holidays and upcoming rent, but I am at a loss for what else I can do. It is with the deepest sincerity that I am here asking for support, anything helps. Thank you so much for taking the time to hear me out! Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy New Year.
