I’m Hazel, a physically disabled and autistic 18 year old. I’m also queer and use he/they pronouns. I currently live with my parents, can’t drive, and have no job due to being disabled.
I experience chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and many other issues including heat and exercise intolerance. These symptoms are caused by multiple chronic and disabling conditions. I can’t stand or walk for a long time, because it makes me very sick, and isn’t safe.
Right now I use a cane for short distances, and a rollator (rolling walker with a seat) for longer ones. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to go to any outdoor events or go on walks in my city in a few years. Going to more than one appointment or store in a day makes my daily symptoms much worse. I volunteer for an hour once a week at a local library, and most of the time that means I can’t safely do anything else that day.
If I meet my goal, the funds will let me get a power chair that fits my needs. I’ve picked one that is portable, not too heavy, easy to get in and out of, and spacious enough for me to sit in comfortably. The goal will cover the cost of the chair, as well as taxes and fees.
This chair would let me safely experience the world again and gain back my freedom. I will use it to safely go shopping, attend local events, go on walks in my city, hang out with friends, and go to appointments. I’m hoping it can help me gain access to more job opportunities, education, and social connections as well.
Having this chair would genuinely change my life. If you’re able to donate or just share this fundraiser with someone, it would get me one step closer to being able to have the freedom and mobility I haven’t had in years.
