Help a Disability Justice Garden Project Take Root
Donation protected
Hearthstone Access-Alliance Garden is a small, peer-run, Disability Justice initiative. We are committed to making nutritious food & gardening skills more accessible to our communities. We work in collaboration with communities and individuals most impacted by food insecurity throughout central & north Vancouver Island.
We have rented a large greenhouse, garden space & small orchard in North Qualicum. We want to make it a lush food forest to distribute food for free and host accessible skillsharing. The land hasn’t been worked in many years & we need to start from the ground up! Being peer-run, we are a group primarily made up of low income disabled people with capacity to do the work & not a lot of cash.
We have many years of farming and growing skills between us and a passion to feed people. We need your help getting off the ground!
Our initial ask is $2500 which is the minimum needed for a few months rent & our initial materials. Our immediate need is $350 for March rent. The essentials are:
Rent - $1400 ($350/month x 4)
Soil/compost mix - $490 + delivery for 10 yards of soil
Hardware mesh, fencing, lumber, tools - min $500
We may update these amounts as needed and will provide transparency as the money is utilized. Thank you so much for supporting HAAG!
