Help Heather Foxwell Recover from Skydive Injury
Donation protected
One of my bestfriends participated in the Skydive Suffolk SIS Boogie on Saturday, October 15. The things she wants to remember about that day are:
the incredible opportunity to do an inverted jump from a biplane, the amazing jumps she had with her friends, the delicious chicken quesadilla from Ortega's Street Tacos. It was lined up to be a fun filled weekend capped off by helo jumps on Sunday. Her fun ended abruptly though Saturday evening when she could not reach her hacky when it came time to pull (jump #60). She remained calm though and started her emergency procedures. She did not anticipate her handles becoming tangled in her multiple layers of clothing. By the time she pulled her one handle, the AAD fired to deploy the emergency chute, but she did not have time to pull the brakes. She remembers falling so fast. (She. Came. Straight. Down. Onto. Concrete.) Her ankles and lower back became the shock absorbers and she fell sideways. She laid there and tried to breathe. People immediately came to her rescue and she now has lots of plates, rods, and screws holding her lower body together. She is overwhelmed and eternally thankful to everyone for their outpouring of love and support. Each day is an emotional roller coaster. She appreciates the cards, texts, messages, and emails from everyone and they have brighten her days. She is thankful to be alive and credits her guardian angel, her sister Becca who passed in 2018, for reminding her that she still has more here to do.
Right now her goal is recovery and gaining strength so she can learn to walk again. We are raising money to help relieve the financial burden created by this accident.
