Support Heavin Helps: Expanding our impact.

Hello family,

I’m Timothy Heavin, Executive Director of Heavin Helps, and I’m thrilled to share the next chapter in our journey to create lasting change for the unhoused community. As a member of the CoC Leadership Council, Coalition of Homeless Service Providers Board, Chair of the Lived Experience Advisory Directive (L.E.A.D.), Co-Chair of the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, Community Action Board Member, CSH CA State Policy Advisory Committee Member, and SAMHSA SOAR Local Lead, I bring years of lived experience and professional advocacy to this work.

At Heavin Helps, we’ve already launched critical initiatives to meet people where they are, using motivational interviewing techniques to engage with empathy and build trust. Now, after working collaboratively to identify the gaps in our homeless response system, we are excited to move forward with our next big project, tune into local radio station 90.9FM (Monterey County) and 104.1FM (San Benito County) every Sunday from 5-8pm for updates on resources, advocacy, and progress.

What’s Next?

We’re developing a comprehensive approach to maximize our impact and ensure long-term success for the unhoused. Our next steps include:

1️⃣ Creating Training for Service Providers: Equipping all unhoused service providers in our CoC with tools and knowledge to provide efficient, compassionate, and impactful services.

Training and certification will be provided to all organizations within our CoC on Housing First, Meeting people where they’re at, persons centered practice, trauma informed care, and cultural humility.

2️⃣ Developing a Peer Support System: Establishing peer supports to deliver wraparound services for individuals after they are housed, ensuring long-term stability and well-being.

These initiatives aim to address systemic gaps and create a more humane, effective, and coordinated response to homelessness in our community.
