Help my friend Heba's family leave Gaza
Donation protected
Hi,
I am Simon Keough and I'm organizing this fundraiser (from New York) on behalf of my friend and Arabic teacher Heba and her family who are now in Rafah, struggling to stay alive. Heba and I met a little over a year ago as I was searching for an Arabic teacher online. We met twice a week on Zoom and became friends, talking about food and cooking and our families.
Heba, her husband Ahmed, and their five lovely kids lived in Gaza City until their house was destroyed. They were forced to move south and take shelter in a school along with hundreds of other families. My friends and I were able to raise enough funds ($2400) through the sale of my photographs to buy the supplies they needed to build a family tent and enough food, clothing and necessities to last for a while.
Since fleeing to Rafah, the situation has gotten even more dire. This is from Heba:
"At night, living in this tent, my children die from the cold and rain, and during the day they die from the heat. Every day is worse than the one before. We are dying every moment from hunger, fear, anxiety and the unknown. We don't know exactly what to do or where to go, no place is safe. I want for my children to eat clean and healthy food and sleep with peace of mind.”
Heba and I are trying to find a way to get them out of Gaza and into Egypt. Please help me raise the money to secure their safe crossing. In the meantime, I am finding out how to start the process of getting them there. I'll share updates as I go through this.
Thank you for opening your heart, for your generosity and support, and your willingness to share this with your own friends and community.
Thank you,
Simon
