My friend Hector Madrigal (55 years old) has been courageously battling synovial sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, for the past three years.

It all began in November 2020 when he received the devastating diagnosis.

Since then, Hector has endured a grueling treatment regimen, starting with rounds of radiation and chemotherapy.

Despite the intense physical and emotional toll, he bravely underwent surgery on May 17, 2021.

The surgery was extensive, involving the removal of his medialis muscle of his leg, which he likened to having his wings clipped, as soccer had been a beloved passion that made him feel alive.

Following the surgery, Hector maintained regular visits with his doctors, hoping for positive news.

Sadly, a year and a half later, the cancer metastasized to his lungs, manifesting as two tumors.

Despite undergoing four different chemotherapy treatments, the cancer persisted, necessitating another surgery on August 14, 2023.

While the tumors were successfully removed, Hector faced a setback when more tumors reappeared just two months later.

However, the relentless nature of his medical battles has taken a toll not just on Hector, but also on his family.

For the past three years, Hector has been unable to work, leaving his wife, Ana, to shoulder the immense responsibility of caring for their three children: Paula, aged 13, Santiago, aged 11, and little Amelia, aged 3.
