Help Helen live the best life she can.

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gail and I am fundraising for my sister-in-law, Helen.

In May 2022, Helen was diagnosed with ALS, a form of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND is a rapidly progressing terminal illness which stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles.

Sadly, this has very quickly resulted in Helen losing the ability to walk independently, use her arms, talk, swallow or to support her head upright. The average life expectancy is just 18 months from diagnosis.
Understandably, this has had a devastating impact on Helen’s mental health as well as the physical decline.
Helen worked for many years as a barmaid in a local pub and had to give up work. Her husband, Kevin, my brother, has also had to take time off from his work as a coach driver to provide full-time care for her. They are fortunate to have tremendous loving support from their daughters Morna and Lynsey and also from their family, friends and local community of neighbours around them.
Kevin says “It’s these small acts of kindness that make the unbearable bearable”.

Morna has already raised over £3000 for MND, Scotland and my husband and I have raised money by cycling 500 miles in support of the Doddie Weir charity.
We feel it’s now time to turn our efforts towards helping Helen to have the best life she can in the limited time she has left.
We are aiming to raise £20,000 to purchase a nearly new wheelchair accessible vehicle which will enable Helen to get out and about with Kevin and her family.

Helen is the kindest, most generous, thoughtful and caring person who was always first to lend a helping hand to others. Now it’s time for everyone to pull together and help Helen and Kevin. Please help us reach our goal as soon as possible and make time count. Thanks in anticipation of any help you feel able to give.
