Help Henry & Arly Get Back On Their Feet
Donation protected
This fundraiser is for a beautiful couple, Henry & Arly
Happily married for a few years, their story took a turn for the worst one morning when Henry felt incredible pain running down his legs. Soon enough, Henry lost function in the lower half of his body completely. Unfortunately his condition was exacerbated by medical mismanagement
Today, 7 months later, Henry's condition remains severe & he is unable to properly function in his lower half. He is unable to work & Arly has assumed financial responsibility for their home. The couple have been unable to afford any medical follow-up for Henry during this time. While worrying about permanent damage for Henry, they also worry about being able to afford basics in life. Unfortunately their situation is dire as they are behind on all their bills & have already faced multiple eviction notices from their apartment
Please help us help Henry & Arly. Help us by donating & by spreading the word
Thank you & God bless you!
Here is their complete story:
On Friday, March 19,2021 Henry was at work, his left leg went completely numb and he felt boiling water running down his leg. We went to a chiropractor to relieve pain and attempt to find a solution but that’s when things took a turn for the worst. The chiropractor performed 2 X-rays and told us he had found the issue and it was a “misaligned pelvis”. He suggested 10 adjustments over a course of 2 weeks and he’d be as good as new, but that was not the case. After one week of adjustments Henry’s pain went from mild to severe. Henry could not walk on his own, get out of bed on his own or even sit. Monday, March 29th, 2021, we went back to the chiropractor for his 6th adjustment and at this point Henry was in pain all day and night barely allowing him to sleep. When the chiropractor saw us we explained the pain was getting worse and the adjustments were not helping and he askeda if we wanted too we could do an MRI so we could be sure of what was going on. At that point I realized he had diagnosed us without being completely sure of his diagnosis. Instead of going for an MRI we went to a second chiropractor for a second opinion. The second chiropractor took multiple X-rays and after careful inspection he told us Henry actually had a severely herniated disk and nerve compression. He sent us to urgent care where they administered steroids and pain meds. However that did nothing, the following day my husband was getting carried out of our room on a stretcher by firefighters and paramedics because he could not move from intense pain. They took him to Memorial Hermann emergency room and after a CT scan they confirmed he had a herniated disk and administered morphine and more steroids. When Henry was discharged he realized his legs were completely numb and he had muscle weakness. We informed the nurse and doctor and they were both very dismissive. Over the next few days Henry slowly started loosing function in his limbs. He wasn’t able to pass bowels, and had minimum bladder control, unable to release urine for the following 5 days.
On Sunday, April 4th, 2021 (Easter Sunday) we went to HCA Clearlake and informed them of the timeline and what had led up to us being there. The next morning Henry was in surgery getting a large chunk of disk removed from his spine. His surgery was life changing. We weren’t expecting for the outcome to be this severe. The surgeon explained his lower nerves were completely compromised and they’d have to regenerate. However she could not promise that his nerves would regenerate or that he’d ever go back to “normal”. He would need lots of physical therapy and follow up care with specialists. They also found a mass near his spine but could not remove it at the time, at his follow up with the neurologist they’d instruct us on how to proceed.
It’s been 7 months since his surgery and Henry has not followed up with any medical professionals or had any physical therapy due to not being able to afford it. He needs to see multiple specialists starting from a neurologist, a urologist, and also a gastroenterologist. He’s now in the process of learning how to walk again. Just standing in one place is almost impossible for him due to loss of balance from numbness. We need help with his medical expenses so he can get the care he needs. Since March 19th that Henry stopped working I’ve assumed the responsibility of head of household and have struggled to pay our bills. I’ve been behind on rent multiple times leading to constant eviction threats. We are at a point where we need as much help as we can get. The stress of not knowing if his damage will be permanent on top of eviction notices is almost unbearable. Anything helps, most importantly prayer. Thank you in advance for your help and compassion.
