Help Henry! Emergency leg amputation needed!
Tax deductible
Hello everyone, this is Henry.
Henry is a young male stray cat who recently appeared in my apartment complex and was immediately very friendly and loving. It is common for people to raise a kitten and then dump them when they aren't small anymore so this is likely why Henry is so comfortable around people already. I planned to capture Henry after the holidays to get him medically up to date for adoption. If only I had done this sooner I could of prevented what happened next.
My neighbor rescued Henry on 12/30 when she saw him limping in the breezeway of our apartments. His back foot was swollen and my neighbor rushed Henry to an ER Vet to have it examined. We all know how expensive those are, and she could only afford to get him an antibiotic shot and some pain killers that night. She texted me the next morning in a panic as his foot began to ooze and swell more. I volunteer with Cat Matchers in Dallas and, due to the poor timing of the Holidays, we were only just able to get him to a charity supporting vet today on 1/3. During the time between, I shaved back the fur and did my best to keep Henry's wounds clean while my neighbor sheltered and made Henry safe... But the infection had worsened. It appeared he had infected bite marks likely caused by another animal.
Today the Vet said there is an 80% chance Henry will lose his leg. We're all sad but we also know cats can live full lives with 3 legs. No matter what we will make sure Henry has a happy and safe life from now on and have his amputation scheduled for Thursday (1/6). Of course, Cat Matchers and volunteers like me rely on other animal lovers to raise funds for surgery like this. We are asking for the support of our local and extended community to fund Henry's surgery so he can get on the road to being someone's forever fur family.
Thank you for your support and sharing of Henry's story.
