Help Hillary Keel and Family

**All funds will go to Hillary and her immediate family, her kids Paul and Sophie. This fundraiser has been put together in collaboration with / on behalf of them**

Hillary Keel, beloved poet, educator, translator, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, has been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma or Pancreatobiliary type carcinoma) and urgently needs our help. Hillary is currently at St. Teresia Caritas hospital in Saarbrücken, Germany, where she is being cared for by doctors and her immediate family. We do not know how long she will last — perhaps days, weeks, months at the very most. The onset of Hillary's illness was sudden, and she and her family are struggling to afford care for her. I've known Hillary for over 15 years and she is one of the most important people in my life. I'm devastated by her loss, and am helping her kids, Paul and Sophie, raise money for her. All proceeds will go directly to them.

Hillary worked for 10 years as an adjunct at Hunter College in New York and, as far as we know, they are offering no support, financial or otherwise — she lost all benefits, including insurance, connected to her job from the moment she announced her medical leave. Hillary's overall financial planning is of course also disrupted. She has no savings to speak of and a mortgage, which she intended to pay off over the course of the next few years. She will not be able to do this and is devastated by the idea of leaving her children to deal with it.

Hillary spent 8 days in the ICU at Beth Israel and 5 days at the ICU of Wayne Memorial Hospital in New York — these bills have yet to arrive. Finally, we do not have a good idea of what additional financial challenges will await her and her family.

We are reaching out to ask you who know and love Hillary, as well as you who might know someone whose life Hillary touched, to please help out with these costs at the end of her life.
