Hodari Brown is a native Detroiter and the six of seven siblings to Virginia Brown and Muhammad Shabazz. He has 19 nieces and nephews as well as 10 great nieces and nephews along with 6 God children. He is a devoted family man who loves children which is why he is a foster and adoptive parent. Hodari’s faith is his guiding force as he is a licensed minister at Triumph Church in Detroit, MI, under the leadership of Pastor Solomon Kinloch Jr. He is an alumnus of Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN and the University of Phoenix.
On August 12, 2020, during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, Hodari found out during a routine visit to the dentist that he had oral cancer from a dental specialist. This very curable and treatable cancer has taken a toll on his life. Hodari was expected only to have one surgery and a few chemotherapy treatments.
As of March 2022, Hodari continues to battle stage 4 cancer while also dealing with other medical ailments such as severe migraines. He has undergone nine surgeries, 25 chemotherapy treatments, and nine radiation treatments. So far treatments have not helped and doctors have continued to say as recently as April 2022 that if nothing changes, Hodari’s whole jaw structure would have to be removed to prevent the cancer from spreading and lingering around.
Hodari has experienced many setbacks on this road to recovery, yet he continues to fight. Through this ordeal of constant treatments and surgeries, he hasn’t been able to work a steady job. He has faced having to go to treatments many times by himself due to the pandemic and rarely gets anyone to stop by to visit him so he has spent many days battling pain by himself. Recently he has admitted to battling deep belts of depression as a result of isolation. Your donation will help cover medical, personal, and living expenses during this challenging time.
