Help Holly KICK cancers @$$

Many of you know Holly, a woman who wears many hats: mom, grandma, girlfriend, daughter, sister friend. In the professional world she is well known as a Master Special Education Teacher and advocate, or as she refers to herself, an “Underpaid Magician.” Just shy of 50 years, things in life had finally been coming together until September 15, 2022. Holly had been feeling fatigued and experienced dizziness over the past year, and was prompted by her bf Adam to get things checked out at the Dr.’s office. Routine lab work revealed severe anemia, which prompted an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Holly remained optimistic but received the life-changing news immediately after waking up from the procedure: she has colon cancer, with two tumors that need to be removed sooner than later. If you know Holly, you know this setback will not stop her, and will not alter her positive outlook and mindset. Holly recently relocated from APS where she had been working as a Special Education teacher the past decade to Sena, NM, where she is currently working as a Special Education Resource teacher for grades Pre-K through 8. Unfortunately, Holly does not have any accumulated sick leave, and the surgery that is required to remove the tumors (colectomy) will have her out of work and back and forth to Santa Fe for 4-6 weeks. If you know this woman, you know how difficult it is for her to ask for or accept help, as she is so used to being “the helper,” but now I feel it is time for us to pull together to support her, whether with words of encouragement, or in easing the financial strain that we all know comes with this horrible, unforgiving disease.
