KTLA News Story
Richard Troy McConaughy, who goes by Troy, has been homeless in the San Fernando Valley for the last year and a half. He thought his life was about to take a dramatic turn in the right direction when he got a check for $73,000 from his grandfather’s estate.
Troy carried the check around with him for months because he couldn’t cash it or open a bank account without a valid ID. All he has is a photo of his Florida drivers license. Troy says he was befriended by a real estate agent by the name of Allison Rinauro who persuaded him to open a joint bank account at the Bank of America in Sherman Oaks on Woodman Ave & Riverside.
Even though Troy had tried to open an account at several other banks, Ms. Rinauro somehow convinced the banker and branch manager to accept the picture of his ID allowing them to deposit the check.
The same day the check cleared, Ms. Rinauro returned to the bank and withdrew the whole $73,000 out of the account and closed it. She took EVERY penny from Troy..stealing his future. Troy wanted to use the money to get off the streets, buy an RV to live in, go to rehab and clean his life up.
He is living on the cold streets while Ms. Rinauro no longer works and is living off his money. She won’t talk to Troy or a news reporter but he filed a police report for grand theft and is hopeful he will get his money back, however, Rinauro’s neighbors say she’s been living off of it.
We don’t know how anyone could prey on the weak...and we want to help Troy get back on his feet. I started this GoFundMe pg because as Troy's friend I will make sure that he gets the proper services that he needs for his situation. e.g drug rehab etc. I will be withdrawing the funds in my own personal bank acct to be distributed in a trust account based on Troy's rehabilitation needs.
