Help house of Lard tenants pay back landlord fees
Donation protected
On March 30th, 2022, residents of the seminal south Minneapolis punk house "House of Lard" received a 60 days notice to vacate the property without any reasoning provided. When the tenants reached out to the landlords, they asserted that they wanted to carry out renovations and rent out the property at a significantly higher price; thus we had no choice but to bail.
Upon moving out on June 1st, the landlords began sending us hostile text messages about the property's vandalism. Three weeks later, they mailed a Statement of Security Deposit charging us over $2000 with a list of "willful and malicious damages." Some of the damages included graffiti that was thrown up during the final Lard party, however a majority of these damages to which we were held accountable had already existed prior to any of the most recent tenants moving in, as the house had seen 11 years of punk house party wear that the landlords never inspected. Many of these damages were also largely due to the landlords' own negligence, as they had ignored our requests to fix fundamental issues with plumbing, electricity, and accumulating black mold in the ceiling.
The house is now up for rent at $4k/month, more than twice as much as we had previously paid for rent, and it's so heavily renovated that it is almost unrecognizable compared to the old Lard.
A benefit event will be taking place this weekend, but for those who cannot make it to the event and have ever partied at or played at the House of Lard over the years, we ask for any assistance you're willing to give to help pay for this shady landlord move.
