Help Ian Get Home to Maine
I write to you in these strange times currently down and out in LA and needing a little help from my friends. I won’t go into all the details here (but would be happy to over a catch-up phone call!) but the short version is: long COVID was debilitating, and really threw a wrench in my ability to work over the last couple years. What little nest egg I did have is long gone. Pile on some heartbreak, a couple of misguided decisions along the way, and evacuating during the recent Los Angeles fires and the message is loud and clear: after twelve years on the west coast, it’s TIME TO COME HOME TO MAINE. It’s been a hard run and while my health is much improved, It’s time to go, yesterday.
Times are precarious and I want to be on the opposite corner of the country close to my retired parents and see my nephews and niece grow up. I’m dying to have real relationships and conversations with Mainers because it turns out you can take me out of New England, but you can’t take the New England out of me. I don’t regret coming out here one bit. I had wild, meaningful, and transformative experiences here, but it’s no longer a place where I can move forward in my evolution as a person. I’m excited to bring what I’ve learned from my adventures back to a place where I know what I have to offer can resonate and grow connections, heal, and resist the darker trajectories of the country by shining more light. So my current plan is to integrate my La-la land learnings back home, where my approach to healing practice will be received more readily and create compounding ripple effects that make communities stronger.
To do all this, I very much need to sell the car that definitely can’t get me across the country, get a good ‘ol van that will cost more than I can get for the car, put whatever I can fit in it, and let go of the rest. Definitely makes more sense than renting a truck or van and not having a vehicle when I arrive home. If all goes according to plan, I’ll hit the road on or around May 1st and be back in time for a summer full of friends and family and picking up where I left off, with a community that feeds me in a place where I feel like my actions can make a difference.
My bank account is barreling towards zero so I’m looking to crowdfund the money for the wheels and the gas that makes them go. I know times are getting more “unprecedented” by the second and that many people reading this might be in similarly dire straits, so please stay safe and attend to your own needs before giving, but I’m hoping that a lot of people giving a little can get me there. And if you’re feeling more secure and can give more than a little it will make all the difference.
Thank you!
