Help Ian's Family Through a Difficult Time

Donation protected
Ian Kovacich passed away on December 2nd, 2024 after a multi-year battle with cancer. In the wake of his passing shortly before the holidays, his family are doing what they can to stabilize, adjust to their new normal and get their head above the water after the stresses of managing through a terminal illness. To do this, they will need our love and support.

Ian was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer in June of 2018, and since that time he endured 36 rounds of chemotherapy, 23 rounds of radiations, and 10 surgeries.

In October 2024, his doctors discovered a tumor in his C3 spine, which threatened his mobility. He did five rounds of radiation and more chemotherapy, and his fractured arm, which was previously treated with a rod, fractured again just below the initial break.

During all of this, Ian's wife Aldena worked a double shift of caring for their three teenagers still living at home, shuttling Ian back and forth from Richmond to Vancouver for care and treatments, while still working full-time.

This winter, Ian went in to the hospital for an x-ray and was found to have pulmonary embolisms in his lungs as well as pneumonia. He was then diagnosed with COVID 19, and passed away on December 2nd, 2024.

Ian endured an enormous amount of pain and suffering to prolong his time with his family. He fought as hard as he could and did everything he could do to give them as much time as possible.

His family now have to grieve and process the loss of their husband and father and stabilize financially. There have been, and will be, many costs associated with this transition, and Aldena is now a single parent to Alexa, Cameron and Joshua in one of the most expensive cities of Canada.

His children (Jersey, Alexa, Cameron and Joshua) are facing the new year, their futures and transition to adulthood without their father. As a community, we should do all we can to help Aldena financially to care for them and herself during this time and into the future. Please share this fundraiser and contribute what you can to help ease their grief and struggle during this time.
